"Between The Lines" describes the Complaints Investigation Bureau (CIB) - the department investigating other police officers' criminal activity - of London's Metropolitan Police. The first two parts tell the stories spinning around various sides of the outlaw misdeeds of the police, varying from such points as trifling corruption, racism and sexual aggression up to vast conspiracy, with some plot lines going through the parts over a few episodes. The series also told about the private lives of totally unpleasant characters, especially the licentious main hero Tony Clark, and is also remarkable for its addition of a lesbian heroine in the main role. In the third and final parts of the series, the main point changed greatly, moving away from the police department to other fields of confidence and espionage.
