A masterpiece by Bernardo Bertolucci tells about life and destiny of two Italian families: landowners and peasants. In the centre of the plot there are two heroes: a young master Alfredo Berlinghieri and peasant's son Dalko Olmo. They were born in the same day at the dawn of 20th century, they spent childhood together and youth, went through the First World War (one of them in the mansion, the other one in the trench), fell in love, went through numerous tests of faith and friendship, became the witnesses of fascism arising and felt on their own skin what it means when the brown plague strikes your home.
